Shoulder Abduction
Supraspinatus, Impingement syndrome, Rotator cuff tear, Tendonitis
Shoulder abduction to target the rotator cuff muscle that is most commonly affected by injury, degeneration and wear & tear: the supraspinatus. This video walks you through a safe progression starting with isometric contraction, to active range of motion and then finishing with progressive resistance training.
Shoulder External Rotation
Infraspinatus
Resisted external rotation at the shoulder will result in loading the infraspinatus muscle of the rotator cuff. This muscle externally rotates the shoulder as well as pull down on the humeral head to counterbalance the upward pull from the deltoid, creating a rotation at the joint rather than an upward slide of the arm bone in the joint.
Shoulder Internal Rotation
Subscapularis
Subscapularis
Subscapularis
When performing resisted internal rotation at the shoulder, we are targeting the tendon and muscle of the subscapularis muscle of the rotator cuff.
